At Hope we value education in not only scripture, but in the application of it to our daily lives. We have a growing variety of ways to plug you into the word of God.
Our Sunday School is unique. We believe children learn what they see and experience, and sending them off to a different place for the entire worship does not allow them to feel part of our community nor to learn how to “be” part of worship comfortably. We have created a highbred Sunday School program where the children are invited to hear the lessons and learn about them on their level while the adult remain in the sanctuary doing the same. The children then return to worship in time for offering and passing the peace.
Our Sunday School teachers have all had background checks and work as a team to ensure your child’s safety and education are secure. We use Whirl Sunday School curriculum by Augsburg Fortress.
On Sundays when there is not a community event after worship, we host an adult forum to discuss matters of faith and current events. Currently, the group is studying “Letters to the Church” by Francis Chan. “Speaking out of deep love for the Church, Chan guides Christ followers to live out God’s magnificent and beautiful vision for His Church—a vision we may have lost but God has never forgotten.” (www.letterstothechurchbook.com). This runs about 45 minutes and gives about 15 minutes of coffee fellowship after worship before beginning.
We offer a variety of seasonal devotions to help you in your daily walk. Currently, we are using a Lutheran World Relief, World Hunger resource for our Advent Devotions. We also offer Bread for the Day quarterly resources for free in the Narthex (entryway).
Text Study Online
Hope is excited to begin partnering with Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Santa Monica for their online text study option. A simple weekly email will engage you with the readings through thoughtful questions.
Are you an early riser? Join Bill B. on Wednesday mornings as Joanna’s Cafe as he leads the group through the readings for the coming week.
